06 Feb La Luz – Damp Face

Scrolling through bandcamp can be a harrowing / hilarious / depressing experience.

More often than not you find yourself confronted by the deranged howlings of a rabid lunatic or assaulted by a band from Walmapoo, Dungaree, who, judging from their sound, believe music reached it’s pinnacle with Bowling For Soup’s The Great Burrito Extortion Case.

On the occasion though you manage to discover a band who succours you out of the depths of musical despair Cockroach Cadavers and Back Bus Buds managed to lure you into.

One such band is La Luz. Hailing from Seattle; Shana Cleveland (guitar), Marian Li Pino (drums), Abbey Blackwell (bass), and Katie Jacobson (keyboard) formed last Summer and released their debut E.P. Damp Face in September.

And to be honest, it’s pretty fucking awesome. The five tracks on the E.P. are lusciously saturated with rich, purring bass lines, seductive, slow surf riffs, alluring, siren-like vocals – harmonized by all the girls in the band – and the occasional whimsical organ solo.

It’s got a very Francoise Hardy vibe and I’m not going to lie; I’m into it.
